These
still photographs don't do justice to the
elegance and charm of this Tom Brewitz kinetic
work. The fluid motion and gentle balance of the
shapes promote a strong push-pull effect by
contrasting the angular with the circular.
Geometric blends are merged and formed in Square
Circle Triangle Relationship.
With
large circles and squares, the smaller triangle
shapes get lost and seem to fade in. However,
once the the work comes to rest, then the
strength of the triangular element is revealed.
In the
drawing, the stand design is shown with two views
for us to study. To accomplish the accuracy
needed to sustain long motion life, construction
of this stand began with developing special
milled frames (not shown). These frames helped
hold the shafts in place and guide the welding
process. Much effort is spent on the preparation
long before the fabrication of the kinetic
sculpture begins!
