Brewitz created drawings taken from the Olympic
emblem. He then fashioned a working sculpture
that has three motion elements.
The
Olympic Seal which contains five rings represents
the five continents that participate. Brewitz'
work comes to rest (shown here) in the very
position needed to give the appearance of the
Olympic emblem. As the athletes were competing in
Nagano, Japan, the Brewitz' work stands poised
and ready to display an exciting performance of
it's own!
It would
be difficult to produce an Olympic design or many
other designs without mapping a plan out on
paper. Here on the left we see how the Olympic
emblem becomes a sculpture with the help of a
detailed sketch including positions and placement
of the sculptural elements. Then the sculpture is
welded, assembled and balanced. Photo #1 is shows
the kinetic sculpture in it's raw metal form.
The
sculpture is then plated in brass, Polychromed
and tested for range of motion and length of time
the elements will stay active from a fully
started sculpture (photo #2). Since the plating
changes the balance of the work, the sculpture is
tweaked until it holds the appearance of the
Olympic Logo Emblem again (photo #3). Note:
photo #3 was taken before the elements were fully
stopped.
